Becoming an Approved Driving Instructor

An ADI, or an Approved Driving Instructor, is an instructor who has been examined by the Driving Standards Agency and obtained his or her licence there. If you"ve already passed all examinations required to become an instructor, you must first get the licence from DSA before you start receiving money from your students. Research shows that most people who passed their basic driving theory tests and practical examinations chose to be taught by a licensed Approved Driving Instructor. But what are the requirements for a future ADI? First of all, he or she must have hold a driving licence for at least for years. He or she should not have been disqualified for driving. Having a clear criminal record is also necessary. The person must also pass three kind of tests: a theory test and two practical examinations. Divining techniques, teaching skills as well as knowledge of the traffic code are tested. Then the person has to apply for the Approved driving instructor licence within a year. As soon as you get your licence, you must attach a special ID card to the left side of your car"s windscreen. However, if you have only passed only two out of three examinations, you can already start teaching. In this case, you must attach a red card on the left side of the screen.
